Overview

Rare-earth-doped nanoparticles emit light whose spectral features depend on temperature, enabling non-contact thermometry at the micro- and nanoscale. This project studies the photophysics behind the response and builds the low-noise detection needed to turn it into a reliable measurement.

Goals

  • Calibrate luminescence-ratio thermometry across relevant temperature ranges.
  • Reduce measurement uncertainty with matched optical detection and signal processing.
  • Apply the method in microfluidic and biological contexts.
